2013 Merry Mojitos and Microloans Event Recap

Over twenty ladies met on Thursday night in New York City to enjoy each other’s company and provide microloans to promising entrepreneurs in the developing world. The night started off with mingling over delicious food and cocktails, followed by a presentation on how loans given through World Vision Micro help people in developing nations buy needed supplies to fund their own small businesses and move out of poverty. By the end of the night, guests had donated of their time and money to entrepreneurs, who will definitely enjoy a very merry Christmas!

Below are some of the entrepreneurs we funded:

Leonides Rojas Valdivia operates her small business in the Vicente Camalote region in Mexico, where she sells basic food supplies to customers in her community. Leonides needs a loan to buy additional supplies in bulk so that she can expand her business. She needs $245 more to complete her loan.  You can read more about her here.

Sintayehu W. runs a small business raising and selling cattle in Ethiopia. She needs a loan to buy more cattle to expand her business.  Sintayehu has one child, currently in school. She needs $225 to complete her loan.  You can read more about her here.







As a chapter, we want to invest $4,500 in loans within the coming year. We are about halfway there, help us reach this goal! A small loan of $25 can help one of these ladies expand her business and change her life. Join our group and start lending today.

Below are instructions on how you can help us reach our goal of lending $4,500 to women from around the world!
  1. Go to http://www.worldvisionmicro.org and select ‘Login/Register’ on the top right hand corner.
  2. Once registered, enter ‘wov new york city’ into the search box at the top of the page.
  3. Select the WOV: New York City NY Chapter group and browse our entrepreneurs.
  4. Choose one, select the amount you would like to donate and pay with your credit card. 
*Once registered, you may also search World Vision micro’s site for other entrepreneurs you wish to fund. On the donation page, WOV:New York City NY chapter should be checked under ‘Apply to group’.  This is how we know you are donating as a Woman of Vision.
